Quick checks

Try these before you ring

You might fix it yourself. If so, great. If not, we’re a call away.

Try the meter test

Switch off every tap and appliance and take a reading from your water meter. Leave everything off for an hour, then read it again. If the number has changed, there’s a leak somewhere on your supply. That simple check tells us a lot before we even arrive.

Boiler keeps losing pressure

Topping up your boiler every few weeks usually means the heating circuit is leaking somewhere, often from a tiny hole in a pipe under the floor. It’s worth finding, because every refill corrodes the system from the inside.

The damp patch is rarely right above the leak

Water runs along joists and under floors before it shows. So the stain on your ceiling may be a long way from the broken pipe. That’s why cutting holes on a hunch is such a costly way to search.

Ring your insurer first

A lot of home insurance policies include trace and access. That covers finding the leak and putting things right afterwards. It’s worth checking before you book, and we can write a report if your insurer asks for one.

Your questions

What people ask us

Will my floor have to come up?

Finding the leak doesn’t involve opening anything up. Once we know where it is, the repair might need access at that one spot. That’s a small, targeted opening, not digging around the whole room.

How precise is leak detection?

Our acoustic and thermal kit will usually narrow a leak down to a small area. Solid concrete can make things harder, and if your home is a tricky one, we’ll tell you honestly instead of overpromising.

My water bill has doubled. Could it be a leak?

Quite often, yes, especially if you haven’t been using more water. Try the meter test above and let us know what you found when you ring.

Can I get a report for my insurance company?

Yes. Just mention it when you book, so the engineer records everything properly during the visit.
