Power flushing and radiator installation in London
Are your radiators cold at the bottom? Some rooms warm, others not? Black water when you bleed them? That’s sludge: bits of corrosion travelling round your system and settling wherever the flow slows down. A power flush clears it out. We also handle radiator installation in London, from fitting a brand new one to moving one out of the decorator’s way.

What the job involves
- Power flush for a central heating system full of sludge

A few things to check
A quick look might sort it without us. We’re happy to say so.
Cold at the bottom? That’s sludge
If the top is cold, it’s air, and bleeding sorts it. If the top is hot but the bottom stays cold, debris has settled inside the radiator. Bleeding won’t help with that at all. That’s the one that needs a flush.
You might not need a full flush
When only one radiator is cold and the rest are fine, the fault is normally that radiator or its valve. Flushing a whole house to fix one radiator costs far more than it should, and we’ll tell you so.
Fit a filter rather than flushing twice
Debris keeps forming after a flush. A magnetic filter on the return pipe catches it, and emptying it once a year keeps your system clean. Skip the filter and the newly cleaned system begins to fill with sludge again from day one.
Old system, tired boiler? Go carefully
Is your pipework old and your heat exchanger close to the end of its life? Then a hard flush could turn a slow-burning problem into an immediate one. If that’s you, we’ll flag the risk before any work starts, not after.
Questions we get a lot
What are the signs I need a power flush?
Watch for four things: radiators that stay cold at the bottom, rooms that never get warm, black water when you bleed, and a boiler that cuts out from overheating. Spot just one and it might be something else. Spot three at once, and sludge is the likely culprit.
Is a power flush a long job?
For most houses, a day. It depends how many radiators you have and how bad things are. We’d rather spend a day doing it right than three hours doing it badly.
Will a flush sort out my cold radiator?
Yes, if debris is the cause. A seized valve, an airlock or a system that was never balanced won’t be touched by a flush, which is why we check first.
Can you fit column or designer radiators?
Yes, we do. Tall column and heavy cast-iron radiators mean we need to check the wall and the fixings properly, and the pipes sometimes have to move. That’s why we price them after a visit rather than on the phone.
