Washing machine plumbing in London: fitted, moved and fixed
Washing machine plumbing in London is a small job, but when it goes wrong it gets expensive. Think a waste hose shoved into a pipe with no trap, a valve that was already dripping, or a machine sitting on an uneven floor. We take the care to do it properly. We can also move your machine to another room, as long as the pipes can get there.

What the job involves
- Your new machine connected and tested
- Hot and cold valves fitted if you have none
- Waste run into a proper standpipe and trap
- Moving the machine to a garage, utility room or different wall
- Leaks from the valves, the waste or the machine itself
- Water connections for ice makers and American-style fridge freezers
A few things to check
A quick look might sort it without us. We’re happy to say so.
Leaking? Check the hose first
Fairly new machine, but water underneath? Check the hose ends and the valve before you suspect the appliance. Fill hoses perish at the bend, and the rubber washer inside hardens over time.
The waste needs a proper standpipe
The right set-up is a standpipe with its own trap, and an air gap between the hose and the water. Shove the hose straight into a sink waste or a bare pipe instead, and you can get drain smells in the room, or a drum that siphons itself dry mid-wash.
The garage can be further than you think
Pipes have to reach it, and they have to be kept from freezing. In many London terraces that run is longer than people imagine. Check with us before you buy the machine, not once it’s delivered.
Going away? Turn the valves off
Those valves behind the machine are all that stands between mains pressure and your kitchen floor while you’re away for a fortnight. Turning them off is free.
Questions we get a lot
There’s no existing connection. Can you still plumb it in?
Most of the time, yes. It means running a supply and a waste to where you want the machine. In a typical kitchen that’s easy. In a flat with concrete floors it takes more work. We’ll check which applies to you.
Can you plumb in an American-style fridge freezer?
We can. All it needs is a cold feed with an isolation valve, and it can usually be done alongside any other kitchen jobs in one visit.
Why does my washing machine only leak when it spins?
Usually it’s the waste, not the supply. Either the hose is pushed too far down the standpipe, or a blockage only overflows when water is coming out at full flow. It’s quick to diagnose.
Will you take my old machine away?
We can disconnect it and move it out of the way. Disposal is usually best left to whoever delivers the new one, as most retailers offer it with delivery.
