Try these before you ring

You might fix it yourself. If so, great. If not, we’re a call away.

When a new boiler really is worth it

Roughly speaking, it’s when your boiler is older than about twelve years, the part that’s gone is a costly one, or parts for your model can’t be found any more. Short of that, repairing usually makes more sense. We’ll tell you so, even though a replacement would be the bigger job for us.

Ask for both prices

Any replacement quote should come with the cost of fixing the boiler you already have. If no one has given you a repair price, ask for one. You can’t really decide with only one number.

Don’t automatically fit the same again

Replacing your boiler is your one chance to put right a boiler that was the wrong size, the wrong type or in the wrong place. If the old one always struggled, or was squeezed somewhere awkward, fitting an identical one just brings the same problem back.

Can you still get parts?

Some boilers still work perfectly well but are no longer supported. If a common fault on your model can’t be fixed because the part isn’t available, that changes things, however old the boiler is.

Your questions

What people ask us

How can I tell if my boiler needs replacing?

Look at three things: its age, the cost of the part that has failed, and whether parts are still available. Older than about twelve years with a costly fault usually means replace. Younger than that, a repair generally makes more sense.

Will you give me a repair price too?

Always, if a repair can be done. You should have two figures to compare, not just one.

Could the new boiler go in a different place?

Yes, and replacing it is the ideal time. Moving it means extra pipework and flue work, but it often solves a problem you’ve put up with for years.

Does my new boiler have to be the same type?

Not at all. It’s a good time to rethink. If you’ve added a second bathroom since your last boiler went in, a system boiler and cylinder may now suit you better than another combi.
