Electric showers

Electric shower installation in London flats and houses

Looking for electric shower installation in London? Here’s what makes it different. The unit takes cold water straight from the mains and heats it with its own element as it flows. A shower pump is another thing entirely: it only boosts water that has already been heated. With no need for a hot supply or a boost, an electric shower is a good fit for a flat with poor pressure. We fit new ones and replace old ones, and we check your electrics can take the load before anything goes on the wall.

A few things to check

A quick look might sort it without us. We’re happy to say so.

Electric shower or shower pump? They’re different

An electric shower heats mains water itself, so it needs no hot supply and no pump. That’s why it works in a flat with low pressure where a pumped shower won’t. If your shower needs more pressure rather than more heat, see our Shower Pumps page instead.

More kW means checking the cable too

Going from an 8.5kW unit to 10.5kW or above draws more current, and your existing cable and breaker might not be rated for it. We check before you buy the more powerful shower, not once it’s fitted.

We fit the shower, an electrician does the circuit

A dedicated fused circuit from the consumer unit is notifiable electrical work. If you already have one that suits the new shower, we connect to it. If not, an electrician needs to install it first. We’ll tell you that straight, rather than fitting the shower anyway.

Your water flow sets the limit

A higher kW shower needs a good flow of cold water to perform. On a weak mains supply, the most powerful unit can leave you with lukewarm water at full flow instead of hot. Check this before you pick a model.

Asked and answered

Questions we get a lot

Can I upgrade to a shower with a higher kW rating?

Often, yes, once we’ve checked your cable and breaker against the new load. If they aren’t up to it, an electrician needs to upgrade them first. We’ll tell you plainly instead of fitting it anyway.

Will I need an electrician and a plumber?

Only if you don’t already have a suitable dedicated circuit. If you do, we connect straight to it. If you don’t, the circuit is electrician’s work, and we’ll say so before we quote, not after.

Can you provide the shower too?

Yes, or we can fit one you’ve bought yourself. Both work fine, and buying your own is often cheaper than a trade-supplied unit.

Can you put a shower where there’s never been one?

Yes, if the wall can hold the fixings and there’s a route for the pipes and cable. We’ll come and look, then explain what’s involved, rather than quoting blind.
